Košické Oľšany

Košické Oľšany (1948-1969 Košické Olšany ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with 1200 inhabitants

The proximity of the community Košické Oľšany to Košice and the good transport connections has led in recent years to a population increase. In 1991 the community had 895 inhabitants, the end of 2007 there were already 1200 inhabitants. Košické Oľšany is an elementary school site today.

Geography

The community Košické Oľšany is the direct eastern neighboring municipality of the city of Košice, about six kilometers in a straight line from the center. Košické Oľšany is located on the left (east ) bank of the Torysa. This here is about 2000 meters wide Torysatal is separate to the west by the ridge from the valley of the Košice Hora Hornád flowing through Košice. On the crest of the ridge lies with the Košice Nová Ves already a district of Košice. The Torysatal to Košické Oľšany is an extension of the basin Košická kotlina.

History

Košické Oľšany consists of two population centers - the long independent villages Vyšný Olčvár and Nižný Olčvár, which in 1944 combined and are now grown together. The original two villages were first mentioned in records in 1288 under the name of Villa Olchwar. 1598 had Vyšný Olčvár 16 and Nižný Olčvár 21 houses.

The Roman Catholic Church svätého Štefana Uhorského dates from 1810 and was restored in 1875-1879 and 1911.

Population

The population of the municipality Košické Oľšany consists to 89% of Slovaks, 8% of the inhabitants are Roma. 83 % of the population are Roman Catholics, 4 % of the population gave Greek Catholic, and about 3 % reformed as a confession to.

Transport links

By Košické Oľšany leads the busy Highway 50 ( Kosice Michalovce ), which also forms a part of the European route 50. Along the road from the Torysatales Rozhanovce runs over Košické Oľšany by the Košice Polianka. Planned to support the final development of the D1 motorway from Prešov is coming to the Torysatal Košické Oľšany follow and turn immediately to the north of the municipality to the east in the direction of Ukrainian border.
