Kosteryovo

Kosterjowo (Russian Костерёво ) is a town in Vladimir Oblast (Russia) with 9073 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is situated on the northern edge of the Meschtschoraniederung about 50 km west of Oblasthauptstadt Vladimir on the river Lipnja (also Bolschaja Lipnja ), a left tributary of the Volga river system in Klyazma.

Kosterjowo belongs to Rajon Petuschki.

History

The town was founded as a settlement for a 1890 to service its about 25 miles away glassworks opened railway station. The name derives from the owner of Plant II Kosterjow.

Later, the settlement grew in connection with the establishment of a supply plant for textile machinery in 1905 and another in 1912.

In 1939, the place the status of an urban-type settlement and 1981, the city law.

Economy and infrastructure

In Kostrjowo there are supplier plant for textile machinery, sawmill and a factory for plastic products.

The town lies on the railway line opened in 1862 Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod ( kilometer 135 ), on which today runs a lot of the features of the Trans-Siberian railway on its western part from Moscow.

The highway M7 Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod -Kazan - Ufa (part of European route 22) heads north past Kosterjowo.
