Krasavino, Veliky Ustyug, Vologda Oblast

Krassawino (Russian Красавино ) is a small town in north-west Russia. It is located in the Vologda Oblast and has 7003 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 650 km northeast of the Oblasthauptstadt Vologda on the Northern Dvina. Krassawino is the Raion ( district ) Veliky Ustjug subordinated administratively. Its administrative center of Veliky Ustjug is located 25 km south of Krassawino. Other nearby towns are Kotlas (32 km north) and Solvychegodsk (46 km northeast).

History

Krassawino was created in 1848 with the opening of a linen mill by Arkhangelsk merchant. After the factory passed the end of the 1850s to the industrialists Yakov Gribanov and was then greatly expanded, the weaving became one of the leading Russian manufacturers of linen fibers and exported its production also abroad.

After the October Revolution of 1917, the factory was nationalized and turned into a few years later in a combine. Around the same time Krassawino officially became a urban-type settlement until it received city rights in 1947 years.

Economy and Transport

Even today, the former linen mill the best known companies in Krassawino and manufactures top quality products including patterned towels, napkins and tablecloths. In addition, a brick factory and a thermal power plant in operation.

About a parallel course of the river Northern Dvina running road Krassawino is connected to Rajonzentrum Veliky Ustjug. Three kilometers west of the town there is a small train station since 1970.
