The circle Adelnau in the southeast of the Prussian province of Posen was in the period from 1815 until 1919.

History ( 1793-1807 )

The area around the city Odolanów ( Adelnau ) belonged after the Third Partition of Poland from 1793 to 1807 temporarily as a separate district of the province of South Prussia Adelnau of the Kingdom of Prussia. After the peace of Tilsit in 1807, the area became part of the Duchy of Warsaw.

Administrative history

The area around Adelnau fell again after the Congress of Vienna on 15 May 1815, the Kingdom of Prussia.

As part of the general reorganization of the circle outline in the Prussian state, a circle Adelnau was redefined on January 1, 1818.

Seat of the district administration has been the county seat Adelnau.

As part of the province of Posen of the circle Adelnau was on 18th January 1871 at the same time part of the newly founded German Empire, whereas the Polish deputies in the new Reichstag on April 1, 1871 protested.

On 1 October 1887, the eastern part of the circle Adelnau was separated and formed into a separate district Ostrowo. To the new county were made:

  • The municipality Ostrowo
  • The police district Ostrowo - east,
  • The eastern half of the district police Ostrowo -West ( with the villages Franklinów, Gremblów and Kołątajew, rural communities and agricultural estates Będzieszyn, Biniew, Czekanów, Karski, Kwiatków and Słaborowice and the agricultural estates Bagatela, Lewków, Młynów and Szczury )
  • The eastern half of the district police Ostrowo -south ( with the villages Chynowa, Mikstat - Pustkowie, Podkoce and Przygodziczki, rural communities and agricultural estates Przygodzice and Wysocko Małe and the agricultural estates Antonin, Kociemba and Stare Kamienice ).

On December 27, began in 1918 in the province of Posen of the Wielkopolska Uprising of the Polish majority population against German rule, and up to a southern border strip along with the city Sulmierzyce was the major part of the district in January 1919 under Polish control.

On February 16, 1919 armistice ended the Polish- German battles, and on 28 June 1919, the German government stepped with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles the circle Adelnau officially to the newly founded Poland from. Germany and Poland concluded on November 25, 1919 an agreement on the evacuation and transfer of the ceded territories, ratified on 10 January 1920.

The evacuation of the remaining area under German control circuit together with the city Sulmierzyce and handover to Poland took place between 17 January and 4 February 1920.

From the circle Adelnau the Polish powiat Odolanów was. 1932, the powiat was dissolved and attached to the eastern Ostrow Wielkopolski Nachbarpowiat.

The circle Adelnau was divided initially into two, after the division of the circle into a town, the remaining villages were grouped into police districts.

The circle Adelnau consisted on 1 January 1908:

  • A municipality ( Adelnau )
  • 46 rural communities and
  • Six agricultural estates.

Size

The circle Adelnau had to pitch in 1887 an area of 893 km ², 483 km ² thereafter.

Population

The circle Adelnau had in 1905: 31 939 inhabitants. Of these, 90% of Poles and 10% German. The majority of the German population after 1920 left the area.
