The circle Ostrowo in the southeast of the Prussian province of Posen was in the period from 1887 until 1918.

Prehistory

1793-1807

The area around the western Polish town of Ostrow Wielkopolski ( Ostrowo ) belonged after the Third Partition of Poland from 1793 to 1807 temporarily to the Prussian province of South Prussia. After the peace of Tilsit, the area was returned to Poland in 1807.

1815-1887

The area fell again after the Congress of Vienna on 15 May 1815, the Kingdom of Prussia. Until October 1, 1887, belonged to the circle Adelnau in the province of Posen.

Administrative history

On October 1, 1887 Ostrowo own circle was formed from the eastern half of the circle Adelnau. To the new county were made:

  • The municipality Ostrowo
  • The police district Ostrowo - east,
  • The eastern half of the district police Ostrowo -West ( with the villages Franklinów, Gremblów and Kołątajew, rural communities and agricultural estates Będzieszyn, Biniew, Czekanów, Karski, Kwiatków and Słaborowice, and the agricultural estates Bagatela, Lewków, Młynów and Szczury )
  • The eastern half of the district police Ostrowo -south ( with the villages Chynowa, Mikstat - Pustkowie, Podkoce and Przygodziczki, rural communities and agricultural estates Przygodzice and Wysocko Małe and the agricultural estates Antonin, Kociemba and Stare Kamienice ).

Seat of the district administration has been the county seat Ostrowo.

On 7 November 1918, the Polish population majority rose up against the German rule and declared the city on November 10, 1918 temporarily for autonomous Republika Ostrowska. As part of the Wielkopolska Uprising Ostrow Wielkopolski finally came on 31 December 1918 and was formally ceded control of Poland on June 28, 1919 with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles to the newly founded Poland.

From the circle of Polish powiat Ostrow Wielkopolski Ostrowo was. 1932, the powiat to the resolved western Nachbarpowiat Odolanów was extended in 1934 to the community Mikstat from the Nachbarpowiat Kępno.

The circle Ostrowo had an area of 415 km ².

Population

The circle Ostrowo had in 1890 32.787 inhabitants. Of these, 79 % were Polish, 17 % German and 4% Jews. The majority of the German population left after 1918 the area.
