Kruununhaka

Kruununhaka ( swedish Kronohagen ) is a branch (Finnish osa - alue ) and a district ( kaupunginosa ) in the center of the Finnish capital Helsinki with about 6,700 inhabitants. Kruununhaka is located in the northeast of the peninsula on which the city of Helsinki is. The name of the district literally means " crown pasture " and points out that the area was formerly used as a state-owned grazing land.

To the west of Kruununhaka is limited by the road Unioninkatu on the south by the marketplace Kauppatori. In the north and west Kruununhaka borders the sea. The district Kallio north adjacent Kruununhaka is connected by a bridge over the Strait Siltavuorensalmi. The Classicist Helsinki city center with Senate Square and the cathedral belongs to the field of Kruununhaka. In essence, the district is however associated with the north adjoining neighborhoods around the street Liisankatu. These are mainly built with Art Nouveau houses from the early 20th century. One of the few remnants of the original wooden houses, built in 1818, the Mansion Ruiskumestarin talo, which now houses a museum. East of the island before Kruununhaka Tervasaari is ( Tjärholmen ), which is home to a park and linked by a causeway to the mainland.
