Lacapelle-Marival

Lacapelle -Marival ( Occitan: La Capela de Marival ) is a southern French village with 1321 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). It is located in the cultural landscape of Quercy in the Lot department in the Midi-Pyrénées region.

Location

Lacapelle -Marival lies at an altitude of about 380 meters above sea level. inst on the southwestern edge of the Massif Central in the Causse du Gramat. The place is located on a side route of the Camino de Santiago ( Via Podiensis ) about halfway between Rocamadour and Figeac or Gramat; the town of Cahors is located about 66 kilometers to the west.

Demographics

In the 19th century the place had always between 1,000 and 1,500 inhabitants. As a result of the phylloxera crisis in the wine and the mechanization of agriculture, the population went in the first half of the 20th century to about 850 residents.

Economy

In skin -Quercy agriculture was operated primarily for self- care, which included the wine until the 19th century, but was abandoned almost entirely after the phylloxera crisis. History

In the 10th century the first time in writings on the life of St.. Mentioned Gerbert of Aurillac, came Lacapelle mid-11th century in the possession of the Cardaillac family. Attractions

  • The Castle (Château de Lacapelle -Marival ) is located in the city and originates from the 12th century; however, it was completely rebuilt in the 15th and 16th centuries. A huge square tower ( donjon ) forms the core of today's system; its lower part is sloped and was formerly surrounded by a moat. The tower closes up into a battlement with machikoulis and small band watch towers ( échauguettes ) in the corners. The three-storey living quarters (corps de logis ) of the 16th century has a loft with Lukarnenfenstern and an impressive roof. Two semi-circular projecting stair towers that frame the residential wing, are still memories of the Middle Ages. The Porte de l' Arbol is the last remaining part of a once siebentürmigen perimeter wall. The castle was recognized in 1939 as a monument historique.
  • The parish church ( Notre- Dame de l' Assomption ) dates from the 16th century. Your straight and largely unadorned forms already indicate incipient neo-classical influences. The nave is accompanied by five side chapels that have contributed both to finance as well as for the stabilization of the structure.
  • The elongated Market Hall from the 16th century still has its original roof, which rests on twelve brick pillars.
