Lancaster Valley AVA

Lancaster Valley AVA ( recognized since 11 June 1984) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The area covers the administrative areas of Lancaster County and Chester County in the southeast of the state and focus on an area around Lancaster. The definition of appellation circumscribes an area with a length of 48 km and a maximum width of 19 km. The Lancaster Valley is one of the most fertile regions of Pennsylvania and is therefore marked distinctly rural.

The overall cool climate viticulture affects the choice of grape varieties. In addition to very hardy and early maturing French hybrid vines or local new varieties, the choice is increased to improve early maturing European noble grapes to the quality of the wines.
