Latvian Green Party

The Green Party of Latvia ( Latvian: Latvijas Zaļā partija - LZP ) is a party that was founded in 1990. It forms with the Farmers 'Union of Latvia ( Latvian: Latvijas Zemnieku Savieniba - LZS ) an alliance of Greens and Farmers ( Latvian: Zalo un Zemnieku Savieniba ) and, together with the Farmers' Union in the elections to the 10th Saeima, the Latvian parliament, in 2010 19.7% of the vote and achieved 22 out of 100 seats. Alliance of Greens and Farmers are part of the government coalition. Indulis Emsis was the world's first head of a green party, which he chaired from 1995 to 2008 in 2004.

History

Emergence and establishment

The Green Party was founded on 13 January 1990 as the first new party in the awakening Latvia, even before the official independence of Latvia (4 May 1990).

The idea of ​​establishing a political organization representing the Greens ideals in Latvia, matured at the first conference for "Green Logic " in the fall of 1989.

"Founding fathers" of the Green Party were: Oleg Batarevskis, Indulis Emsis, Juris Zvirgzds, Arvīds elm, Valts Vilnītis and others.
