Lavans -lès -Saint -Claude is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Lavans -lès -Saint- Claude is located at 530 m above sea level. M., about seven kilometers west of the town of Saint- Claude ( a straight line ). The village is located in the Jura: a scenic location on a sloping hillside to the east, about 200 m above the valley of Bienne, at the edge of the Plateau du Lizon.

The area of 11.65 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part is occupied by a relatively gentle east sloping ridge that forms the southern continuation of the Plateau du Lizon. History

The territory of Lavans -lès -Saint -Claude was already inhabited during the Roman period. The first mention of the place is in the 9th century.
