Layla and Majnun

Laila Majnun (Arabic مجنون ليلى ) ( The Possessed by Laila ) is the name for the male main character Qays ( Majnun in Persian literature ) in a classic oriental love story of Arab origin. Qais perishes in his unrequited love for Laila. The earliest known form dates from the second half of the 7th century. According to the Kitab al - Aghani by Abu'l- Faraj al - Isfahani whose author is a young Omayyade with the pseudonym " Majnun ", which is possibly due to Qais bin Al - Qais bin Mu ʿ Mulawwah or ad is. Famous are the Persian versions ( داستان لیلی و مجنون / Dastan -e - Layla o Majnun ) of Nezami ( 1180 ) and mosque (15th century). In the 16th century Fuzuli wrote an adaptation in Azeri, Leyla Dastan -ı ve mecnun.

Music

The first Islamic opera ever, in 1908, listed in Baku opera Leyli va Majnun was the Azerbaijani composer Üzeyir Hacıbəyov.

The blues guitarist Eric Clapton attacked themes from this love story in his song Layla. Layla was one of the most played rock songs of the 1970s. On the album " Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs " (by Derek and the Dominos ) was part of Nezami text in the lyrics of the song quoted " I am yours". Nezami is there given as lyricist.

In the Ruhr Triennale 2010, the substance as "a theatrical narrative " with the text of Albert Osterhaus Maier and music by Samir Odeh- Tamimi was premiered at the Centennial Hall in Bochum.
