Le Luhier

Le Luhier is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Le Luhier is located on 809 m, 13 km north-northeast of Morteau and about 15 km northwest of the town of La Chaux -de-Fonds (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in a trough in the west of the plateau of Maîche, at the northern foot of Mont Repentir.

The area of ​​5.21 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the territory occupied by the gently undulating plateau, which is on average 820 m. It is mainly consisted of meadow and pasture land, has, in the east with the Grande Aige but also a larger forest area on. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. Slightly depressed in the plateau are two main valleys that belong topographically to the catchment area of the stream Pissoux (inflow of Dessoubre ). To the south, the municipality's area extends over a wooded hillside of Mont Repentir, on the 1050 m the highest peak of Le Luhier is achieved. The Mont Repentir is a part of the broad ridge of Le Mémont. This ridge forms in geological- tectonic respects an anticlinal folds of the Jura and is oriented southwest-northeast direction according to the strike of the mountains in this region.

At Le Luhier the hamlet of Les Guérites include ( 835 m) on the plateau at the northern foot of Mont Repentir and various individual courtyards. Neighboring communities of Le Luhier are Montbéliardot in the north, Bonnétage and Le Russey in the east, Le Mémont in the south and Mont- de -Laval in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Le Luhier belonged to the rule Réaumont, which was under the suzerainty of the Lords of Montfaucon, from the 15th century to that of the Counts of Montbéliard. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

By January 1, 2009 there was a change in the membership of the district municipality. So far, belonging to the district Montbeliard, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier.

Attractions

The village church of Le Luhier was built in the 16th century in the late Gothic style, while the bell tower from the 19th century came from.

Population

With 200 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Le Luhier is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 256 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Le Luhier was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming, some farming ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Maîche after Orchamps -Vennes. Further road links exist with Laval -le- Prieuré and Le Mémont.
