Leanne Smith

Leanne Smith ( born May 28, 1987 in North Conway, New Hampshire) is an American alpine skier. She specializes in the disciplines of downhill, super -G and combined.

Biography

Smith took in December 2002 participated in her first FIS races, from November 2004 then served in the European Cup. After a year at the University of New Hampshire in 2006 she interrupted her studies in order to fully concentrate on skiing. In the season 2006/ 07 she was the overall winner of the Nor- Am Cup, the North American Continental Championship; added was the victory in the super-G standings.

On December 1, 2007 Smith played her first World Cup race, the downhill in Lake Louise, while it ranked 23rd and brought thus instantly World Cup points. The next day she came in 19th place of the super -G for the first time among the top 20 in the 2009/10 season she drove in four World Cup races into the top 20, reaching 23 January 2010 in the departure of Cortina d'Ampezzo than 15 her best result of the season. She also won a European Cup downhill Caspoggio and was U.S. Champion in the downhill. At the 2010 Winter Olympics they finished 18th in the Super G and 21 in the super combined.

On January 21, 2011 Smith reached number eight in the Super- G in Cortina d' Ampezzo her first top- 10 finish in the World Cup. At the World Championships 2011 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen they only came in 19th in the Super G to the finish while it turned downhill and super combined and was disqualified. At the end of the 2011/12 season, in which they usually yielded similar results as the previous year, Smith reached fifth place in the Super G in Schladming her best World Cup result so far. Your first podium it achieved on 14 December 2012 as the second in the downhill in Val d'Isere.
