Leodegrance

King Leodegrance li ː oʊdɨɡræns of Cameliard (also: Leondegrance, Leodegranz or Lleudd - Ogrfan ) is a figure of Arthurian legend. He is the father of Gwenhwyfach and her sister Queen Guinevere ( Gwenhwyfar ), wife of King Arthur.

Background

Leodegrance was given the commission of Uther Pendragon Round Table, which was the heart of the Round Table later in the hands. Leodegrance was commissioned to watch after the death of Uther about this. The table had 150 seats after the original tradition, later a number of 25 was then adopted. This gave Leodegrance Arthur to the wedding, the latter had then set in Camelot. The table was considered a representation of the world.

The Kingdom Carmelide (or Cameliard ) is sometimes identified as a town in the southwest of England, it could have been located as well in the Breton Cornwall, near the town of Carhaix but, in the " Histoire de Merlin " (13th century) " Carhaise " is called.

In the later romance Leodegrance is one of the few kings who acknowledge Arthur as their supreme king. Therefore, his country is invaded by King Rience, but King Arthur comes to his aid and distributes the enemy. On this journey, Arthur meets for the first time on Guinevere and they fall in love.

According to the information in the Lancelot - Grail cycle, Leodegrance fathered a second daughter, whom he also called Guinevere. These "wrong Guinevere " convinced later insidiously the court of King Arthur, that she is his real wife and her sister an impostor. She forced thereby to hide the real queen and her lover Lancelot.

In Welsh mythology, is the father of Gwenhwyfar ( Guinevere ) the giant Ogyruan / Ogyrvan or Gogyrfan, which is mentioned in a number of texts.
