Leyton Orient F.C.

Leyton Orient ( officially: Leyton Orient Football Club ) - also known as The O 's - is an English football club from the East End of London, who plays since the beginning of the 2006/07 season in the Football League One. The home games are played at Brisbane Road in Leyton district in the Matchroom Stadium.

History

The club was founded in 1881 by students of Homerton Theological College. After 1888, some employees of the shipping company Orient Shipping Line joined the club, he changed its name to Orient Football Club. 1898 was followed by another name change to Clapton Orient, which until 1946 was valid. Since then the name of the club Leyton Orient, with an interruption from 1966 to 1987, and the Leyton was dropped from the club name.

After the first twenty years were played unterklassig, was carried out in 1905 to join the Football League, where the O's also prevalent in lower professional leagues have since been at home. Only 1962/63 it was represented for a year in the First Division, the then English top flight.

Caused a stir Leyton Orient then only in 1978, when they reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup and on the way there the first division Norwich City (1-0 away in the replay ), Chelsea ( 2-1 away in the replay ) and the FC Middlesbrough was off ( 2-1 at home in the replay ). Since 1976, the current club character is used in the two Wyvern are shown which look towards itself supported on a football and are intended to symbolize the connection of the Association for the city of London and the sea.

After eleven years in the lowest English professional league Leyton Orient succeeded in 2006 in third place promotion to the Football League One.

On 21 January 2009, the long-time manager Martin Ling was released after Leyton Orient came with just 22 points in 25 games into severe down hardships.
