Lindenberg im Allgäu

Lindenberg im Allgäu ( officially: Lindenberg i.Allgäu ) is the second largest town in the Swabian district of Lindau ( Bodensee) and forms the heart of the Western Allgäu region.

History

The first people who settled in scattered settlements located in the Allgäu region, were the Celts, the BC built the ground about 500 years.

By 15 BC, the area was occupied by the Romans and it was built a Roman road - this combined Brigantium ( Bregenz) on Cambodunum ( Kempten in the Allgäu) with Augusta Vindelicorum ( Augsburg).

In the 8th century, the area now Lindenberg was in the hands of the noble family of Udalrichinger of Bregenz and their heirs. In the 9th century, the area went to St. Gallen.

The first written mention Lindesbergs can be found in the 9th century on a property deed of the monastery of St. Gall: In the year 857 Patacho and Sigibert gave two important nobles, goods in " Lintiberc " to the monastery of St. Gall.

Then it was passed to the Counts of Montfort, whose ancestral castle can still be seen today in Bregenz. Their Vogt sat in Thaler village ( Dallendorf ) at Gestratz and there had to bring their tithes farmers.
