LinuxTag is Europe's largest exhibition for "free software" with the main focus on Linux. The annual event aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the market to Linux and free software, as well as help to establish contacts between users and developers. LinuxTag is shared with the global Open Source World for users and developers world's most important event of this kind

Promotion of free software
LinuxTag sees itself as part of the free software movement, and promotes this community in an extraordinary degree by the support of numerous open- source projects. These projects provides the LinuxTag a way their software, its concepts, and thus present the whole project to the public in an appropriate manner - on their own stands, forums and lectures. It can and should encourage projects by sharing with other groups and companies benefit concept and content. Advances and new technologies are extensively discussed and developed in new directions.
LinuxTag e.V.
The association " LinuxTag e.V. " Founded in advance of the move of the Linux Day of the University of Stuttgart. To date, he leads the LinuxTag event by volunteer and accompanied him ideologically. LinuxTag eV is a registered at Amtsgericht Kaiserslautern club ( club register VR 2239 ). He is the organizer and winner of the LinuxTag. History of LinuxTag
The conference LinuxTag exhibition was launched in 1996 by a handful of protagonists of the Unix Working Group (Unix -AG) at the University of Kaiserslautern in life. They wanted to inform the source about the then-new technology of Linux and Open. LinuxTag originally only consisted of a small number of participants, both Issuing and lecturer. To keep pace with the rapidly growing number of participants and exhibitors, the site has been moved several times.

Linux Days 1996 - 1999
The first LinuxTag was a theme night on Linux. LinuxTag was held in 2002 for the first time on 6 June 2002 to 9 June 2002 at the Congress Centre in Karlsruhe. There were about 13,000 visitors. LinuxTag 2003

There was also a programming competition and on Sunday a world record attempt took 13 to 14 clock instead: On a server should be brought with Gnome and KDE simultaneously running 100 Linux desktop sessions. Here, everyone could join in on the Internet. The result was not disclosed.
Besides the exhibition also congresses were held in which renowned experts spoke on a subject group. LinuxTag 2004

The one-day Business and Administration Congress on June 24, case studies and success stories about use of open source were presented in enterprises and government agencies. Among other things, came also the problem with viruses and worms to language.
For the free conference, there was a record turnout with about 350 proposals from 20 countries. 130 thereof could be accommodated in the program. The issue of software patents was an important issue.
Contests on this LinuxTag were a coding marathon and Hacking Contest 2004.
LinuxTag 2005
LinuxTag 2005 took place in the period from 22 to 25 June 2005 at the Congress Center Karlsruhe. LinuxTag 2005, a total of 11 LinuxTag and was titled "Linux everywhere". The 17th LinuxTag was held from 11 to 14 May 2011 at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds "Shaping the future, initiate Renaissance " with the motto instead. LinuxTag 2012
The 18th LinuxTag was held from May 23 to 26, 2012 at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds with the motto " Open minds create effective solutions! " Instead. In recent years, the number of visitors of LinuxTag stagnated despite more and more users of open-source programs. This decline in visitor numbers is probably due to the high market penetration of free software and Linux. In order to adapt to the changes, the Linuxtag directed by focus and diversification on the core issue of the professional use of open source software in 2014. These LinuxTag has entered into a strategic partnership with the droidcon and turned increasingly to the unveiling of specific techniques and products that arise in the context of open source. These include cloud technology such as Infrastructure as a Service, IT service management, scalable storage systems, enterprise web frameworks and content management systems and embedded Linux.
