List of cities in Iraq

The list of cities in Iraq provides an overview of the development of the population of the larger cities of the Near Eastern state of Iraq.

By far the largest agglomeration in Iraq is Baghdad with a population of 8,044,930 (as of 1 January 2007). This means that around 30 percent of people in the country live in the capital region.

The following table contains the cities of over 70,000 inhabitants, whose name in German transcription and in Arabic, the results of the censuses ( VZ ) of 14 October 1965, October 17, 1987, as well as a calculation for January 1, 2007. Listed is also the government, to which the city belongs. The population figures refer to the actual city without suburban belt.
