List of cities in Sweden

The list of cities in Sweden provides an overview of the development of the population of the larger urban settlements of the State of Sweden, ie the cities in a geographical sense.

Politically, there are no cities in Sweden. As a municipality reform entered into force on 1 January 1971, lost 133 places her municipal law and were given the status of a municipality. The term " city " is used generally for a densely built-up area ( swedish Tätort ) and is primarily used for statistical purposes.

Urban settlements by population

Sweden is divided into 21 provinces ( swedish län), which are divided into 290 municipalities ( swedish kommun ). These in turn are mostly made ​​up of villages.
