Geography
Long Prairie is located in central Minnesota at the Long Prairie River, a tributary of the opening into the Mississippi Crow Wing River. The geographic coordinates of Long Prairie are 45 ° 58'29 " north latitude and 94 ° 51'56 " west longitude. The city covers an area of 6.92 km ².

History
After the region from 1846 to 1855 belonged to an Indian reservation of the Winnebago, the Long Prairie Township was established in 1867. In the center in the same year was the modern city, which was published in 1883 released from the Township and incorporated as the Village of Long Prairie. Was named the settlement after the Long Prairie River, which flows through the county from south to north.
