Ludwig Stössel

Ludwig ram, even ram, (born 12 February 1883 in curls house; † January 29, 1973 in Beverly Hills ) was an Austrian actor.

Life

He made ​​his stage debut in 1900 and played in 1903 in Sigmaringen, 1904 in Ulm, then in Poznan and Salzburg, where he made ​​his debut as a theater director. After the First World War, he worked as an actor and director at the Thalia Theater of Wroclaw.

In 1925 he went to Berlin, where he performed at the local stage under the direction of Max Reinhardt at the Deutsches Theater and artists at the State Theatre until 1933. To this end he took over in 1926, a growing number of film roles.

After the seizure of power in 1933, the Jewish actor acted for the last time at the theater at Nollendorfplatz and then went to Vienna. He then worked at the Raimund Theater, and again from 1936 under Max Reinhardt at the Theater in der Josefstadt. At the Salzburg Festival, he plays the devil in everyone and Wagner in Goethe's Faust. His work for the film was limited at this time on the role of a pastor in The pastor of the church field after Ludwig Anzengruber.

After the Anschluss, he emigrated with his wife Lore Birn via Paris to London, where he participated in two British film productions. In 1939 he came to America in 1940 and received his first film role. Ram has been used in many Hollywood productions. Mostly he played nice, older men as the father of Gary Cooper in The master stroke. Especially popular is his brief appearance as a European emigrant Mr. Leuchtag in the film Casablanca ( "What watch - Ten watch - seeking much" ).
