Luis Pereyra

Luis Pereyra ( born July 9, 1965 in the province of Santiago del Estero ) is an Argentine dancer and choreographer of the Tango Argentino and Argentinian folklore.

Life

Luis Pereyra comes from a simple working-class family. At the age of 5 years he danced in folk groups. At the age of 11 he joined as a member of the Ballet Argentino, under the direction of Mario Machaco and Norma Ré first time professionally. He had his first stage appearance at the legendary Caño 14, where occurred the same time the famous bandoneon player Aníbal Troilo. Later Luis Pereyra member of the Ballet Salta Marina and Hugo Jiménez. Luis Pereyra studied choreography under the direction of Maestro Carusso in the Teatro Colón, the Opera House of Buenos Aires, and at the Escuela Nacional de Danzas. He studied under recognized masters such as Santiago Ayala " El Chúcaro " Hugo Jiménez, Mario Machaco, Héctor Zaraspe, Irene Acosta, Ana Marini, Wasil Tupin and Mercedes Serrano. His training includes modern dance, classical ballet, jazz dance, folk, tap dance and music studies.

He participated in all the great tango productions, including at Forever Tango, Tango Pasión and from 1987 to 2000, produced by Claudio Segovia and Héctor Orrezoli Musical Tango Argentino. Here Luis Pereyra was nominated for a Tony Award in 2000. The performances have taken him throughout the U.S., Canada, UK, Germany, Japan, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands and France.

In 2001, he took over the solo part in the opera Orestes - Last Tango under the direction of choreographer Oscar Araiz. This opera was produced for the WMTF Festival Holland. At his side the dancer Nicole Nau and singer Julia Zenko, Susana and Carlos Moncayo Vittori were.

Throughout his career, he danced at major venues such as the Gershwin Theatre on Broadway, the Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris, the Aldwych Theatre in the West End (London), the Philharmonie in Cologne, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt and the German Theatre Munich. In 1994 he danced for Paramount Pictures and was presented by Al Pacino. In 1995, he danced in the Castro Theatre in San Francisco and has shared the stage with Robin Williams and Peter Coyote.

The choreographic work of Luis Pereyra is strongly influenced by his Argentine origin. Always his works are close to the folk dance and pure in the choice of the elements. His works are permeated by his principle: "Unity. The things that belong together, can not be separated. "He wants to look at the culture of Argentina as a unit, the Argentine tango as part of the Argentine folklore. From the beginning, he pursued this baseline. In his productions Luis Pereyra dances usually itself His recent works include 2011 Aqui folklore and in 2010, the Viejo Almacén and all productions of his own company El Sonido de mi Tierra ( " The sound of my earth "). In 2007 he opened his Café de los Angelitos production - El Tango.

Since 2001, Luis Pereyra works with his partner Nicole Nau Nicole Nau under the name & Luis Pereyra.
