Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove on the Potomac

The Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove on the Potomac is located on Columbia Iceland in Washington, DC The Presidential Memorial honors the 36th President of the United States Lyndon B. Johnson.

The memorial consists of two sections. The first area is a monolith of granite Texan, which is surrounded by serpentine paths. The second area is a grassy area that serves to relax and reflect. Hundreds of Weymouth pine and dogwood trees give the paths are lined with azaleas and rhododendrons, shade. From the memorial you look across the Potomac River on the capital.

At the entrance of the memorial, which is located opposite the Pentagon, visitors can listen to a recording of Lady Bird Johnson. In this recording, the former First Lady talks about the construction of the park, the trees and the view of the main attractions of Washington.

The park also includes the Navy - Marine Memorial, dedicated to the sailors and Marines who died in the First World War.

Administrative history

The National Memorial was approved by Congress on December 28, 1973, registered on the same day in the National Register of Historic Places. The memorial was inaugurated on 27 September 1974. It is administered by the National Park Service within the George Washington Memorial Parkway.
