The M26 motorway (English for, highway M26 ') is a only about 16 km long motorway in Kent, England, which connects the M25 to the M20.

The origin of this short motorway is in the planning of London motorway rings (English London Ringways ) in the 1960s. This section should be an integral part of Ringway 4, that of the outermost ring. The changed plans after 1972, which led to the construction of today's M25 Motorway, comprised the eastern and northern parts of Ringway 3 and western and southern parts of Ringway 4 However, these first had to be connected. Since the new ring road itself should now turn north at Sevenoaks, was opened in 1980, this section as a " stub " of the M25 and renumbered M26. Until the opening of the necessary part of the piece in February 1986, the M25, however, ended on this highway.

The section between the junction 2A of the M26 and Junction 6 of the M25 is the longest section (18 miles long ) between two exits in the UK, as you can not leave the motorway at Sevenoaks. This applies only in the direction West.
