Mahdia Governorate

Mahdia (Arabic ولاية المهدية, DMG Wilāyat al - Mahdiya ) is one of the 24 governorates in Tunisia. It lies on the Mediterranean coast in the mid- east of the country and has an area of ​​2878 km ² and a total population of 400 400. These are 2.7 percent of the total population. The name of the capital city is also Mahdia. On June 5, 1974, this province was separated together with the province of Monastir Governorate Sousse existing since 1956.

Geography and climate

Economy

In addition, there are 34 processing companies in the agricultural sector and nine manufacturing facilities for glass and ceramics, as well as some chemical, mechanical, and electrical metallurische businesses.

The service sector, including tourism in particular, the fastest growing: currently the governorate of Mahdia has 23 hotels with a total of 6700 beds.
