Sidi Bouzid Governorate

Sidi Bouzid Governorate The (Arabic سيدي بوزيد, DMG Sīdī Bū - Zaid ) is one of the 24 governorates in Tunisia. It is located in the center of the country in the field of zentraltunesischen steppe country and covers an area of 7,400 km ² (4.5% of the total area of Tunisia ). Its population is 415 900, the majority of the people live in rural areas. The capital of the region is the same Sidi Bouzid. The government in its present expansion was founded in 1973.

The region was the starting point of the Tunisian revolution, after which the greengrocer Mohamed Bouazizi burned in the capital of the province itself in December 2010. The ensuing riots in Sidi Bouzid spread quickly over the country and were pioneers of the Arab Spring.
