Emmanuel " Manny" Legace ( born February 4, 1973 in Toronto, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who plays for the Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League since October 2011.

Career

Legace was drawn by the Hartford Whalers in the eighth round at the NHL Entry Draft in 1993 in place of 188. At this time he played with the Niagara Falls Thunder in the Ontario Hockey League. In the following years he continued to play in lower leagues, including for the Springfield Falcons between 1994 and 1998. In 1994 he won the Canadian national team at the Olympic Winter Games, the silver medal, came himself but not used.

In 1997, the Hartford Whalers moved to Carolina and called themselves since the Carolina Hurricanes. In 1998 he was transferred to the Los Angeles Kings, where he stood for the first time in the National Hockey League on the ice, the majority of the season but stood between the posts in Long Beach Ice Dogs of the International Hockey League. At the beginning of the 1999/2000 season Legace was a free agent and got a contract with the Detroit Red Wings, was used in the season but almost exclusively with the Manitoba Moose in the IHL.

In the following years he got more ice age in the NHL, but was still in the shadow of other goalies, like Chris Osgood, Dominik Hasek or Curtis Joseph. In 2002 he won the Stanley Cup with Detroit. During the lockout in the NHL he played in Russia in Woskressensk, but completed only two games and spent the rest of the season at home in Novi, Michigan. At the beginning of the season 2005/ 06 he was finally No. 1 in the Detroit Red Wings and ended with his team the regular season ranked first but the play-offs were very early and surprisingly in the first round against the Edmonton Oilers terminated against the one lost 4-2 ( Best of Seven).

Despite good performances he was told after the season that you no longer plan on using it and the contract is not renewed. In early August, he signed a contract with the St. Louis Blues. There he took over the post as undisputed first-choice goalkeeper and was in season 2006/ 07 still one of the stronger players on the team, even though the year was rather disappointing for the Blues. However Legace could not complete the full number of games, because it only in December drew upon a concussion and had to undergo knee surgery in late February 2007. His contract was eventually extended by two years until 2009. At the beginning of the 2008/ 09 Legace lost his position in the goal of the exchanged from the Nashville Predators Chris Mason, who plays a very strong season. On 6 February 2009, the St. Louis Blues announce that they have Manny Legace put on the waiver list and for goalkeeper Chris Holt have fetched from the farm team in the NHL squad. After a season with the Carolina Hurricanes, where he received little games, he moved in 2010 to the Iserlohn Roosters.

After graduating from a try-out with the Vancouver Canucks in the summer of 2011, but not received a contract, the goalkeeper for the 2011/12 season was also obliged by the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League for a try-out. After an AHL game for the Rampage to Legace decided in October 2011 for an engagement with the Springfield Falcons, again to try-out basis.
