Basseng began his motorsport career in 1993 in karting. Two years later he became DMV national champion North and drove his first four races in Formula Junior. The following year, he played a full season and finished this in eighth place in the overall standings. In 1997 he joined the UPS Porsche Junior team in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, where he finished in tenth place at the end of the season. He was also in four races of the Porsche Supercup at the start. In 1998 he drove for the same team again in the Porsche Carrera Cup and in some races in the Porsche Supercup. At the race on the AVUS he celebrated his first victory in the Carrera Cup and finished the season off on the third championship course. In addition, he took in a Porsche 993 RSR Cup on 24 - hour race at Daytona in part. 1999 Basseng had no fixed cockpit. He competed in several races in the Carrera Cup and Supercup as well as in the Ford Puma Cup. He was also in a BMW 318i at a run of the BFGoodrich Endurance Championship on startup.
After a full season in the Puma Cup 2000, he finished seventh championship course and fourth place in the junior rankings. In the same year his first participation was followed by the 24 -hour race at the Nürburgring, which he finished in a Ford Puma on the 42nd place overall and in fourth place in the class. 2001 Basseng went into the Renault Clio V6 Trophy, in which he scored sixth place in the overall standings and won the junior championship. As a driver and team manager of RS- Line Motorsports, he managed in the Clio V6 Trophy 2002 to the third championship course. In a Ford Puma he drove the 24 -hour race at the Nürburgring in 16th place and took the class win. After joining in the Renault Clio Speed Trophy 2003 he was with three wins master of this series. From 2004 he played for Land Motorsport on a sponsored by the firm Bilstein, Porsche 996 GT3 RSR, the BFGoodrich Endurance Championship and the 24 -hour race at the Nürburgring. In 2009 Basseng denied in an Audi R8 LMS Phoenix Racing in the 24- hour race at the Nürburgring. After his team was in the lead for a long time, it experienced technical problems back in fifth place. Thus Basseng could not win the race again, even though he always sat since 2004 in a victorious capable vehicle, but the technique went on strike again and again. At the 24 Hours of Spa Basseng was with the Audi R8 LMS third overall and was able to enter the class victory in the G3 again.
2010 Basseng team manager and driver when Munnich Motorsport and took care of the inserts in the FIA GT1 World Championship. 2012 Basseng continued to work at Munnich Motorsport team manager and driver. The team replaced the beginning of the year on the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3, as the competition will be hosted from 2012 with modified GT3 cars. Basseng and Winkelhock assert themselves as the most consistent and fastest driver duo. It manages both to score at all the races except the last race at Donington. The duo secured the championship in an epic final with only one point ahead. Munnich Motorsport secures with higher superiority also the team title in the FIA GT1 World Championship. After three years in the GT1 World Championship, where they started as a newcomer in 2010, is both championships were thus able to successfully bring to Saxony in the third year. At the fourth attempt with Audi Marc Basseng was finally able to fulfill a long awaited dream and the 24 -hour race at the Nürburgring profits. As in previous years he drove for Team Phoenix on an Audi R8 LMS. With his team-mate Frank Stippler, Christopher Haase and Winkelhock he drove to victory.
VLN Endurance Championship
Basseng runs since 2004 in the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring and celebrated until the end of the 2012 season with 72 race 24 overall victories. Overall, he was 37- times on the podium.
Basseng worked from 2003 as a co- commentator for Sky (formerly Premiere ) and commented so far including the Porsche Carrera Cup, Porsche Supercup, the DTM and GP2 Series.
