Mariano Suárez

Mariano Suárez Veintimilla ( born June 4, 1897 in Otavalo, † October 23, 1980 in Quito ) was an Ecuadorian lawyer, politician of the Partido Conservador Ecuatoriano and September 3, 1947 to September 16, 1947 President of his country.

Suárez graduated from the Universidad Central del Ecuador, the Licenciatura in Political and Social Sciences and a doctorate in law. He was a member of the National Congress for Imbabura 1931-1935, when he had to go into exile in Chile. In 1935 he was the exile of the party leader Jacinto Jijón y Caamano Chairman of the Conservative Party. From 1939 to 1942 Suárez was again a Member of the National Congress of Imbabura, 1942, Vice- President of the Parliament. He took part in the revolution of 1944. In 1946 he was a member and later president of the Constituent Assembly for the province of Pichincha, 1947, he was vice president under Velasco Ibarra. Following a coup d'état by Carlos Mancheno who could hold only eight days in power, Suarez took over the presidency to immediately convene an extraordinary congress, Carlos Julio Arosemena Tola certain as the new president.

After his brief presidency Suárez worked in the Electoral Tribunal and other state institutions of his country.
