Marit van Eupen

Marit van Eupen ( born September 26, 1969 in Arnhem) is a Dutch rower who won the 2008 Olympic gold medal in the double sculls of lightweight rowers.

Marit van Eupen began in 1987 as a control woman with rowing. The rower of the Amsterdam Student Association Nereus came in 1998 for the first time at the World Cup and finished third in Lucerne. In 1999 she started in the one at the World Championships, finishing in seventh place. In 2000, she appeared in the double sculls together with Kirsten van der Kolk at the Olympic Games in 2000 and finished sixth. In the years to 2004 Marit van Eupen won two World Cup races and reached every year the World Cup finals, in 2001 and 2003 she went there together with Kerstin van der Kolk, 2002 Hedi Poot was her partner. With two fifth places at the World Championships in 2001 and 2002, and the sixth place in 2003 but its not the breakthrough. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens Marit van Eupen won by Kirsten van der Kolk the bronze medal. Marit van Eupen As of 2005 approached generally in the lightweight one and was in the next three years the dominant athlete with three wins at the World Cup in Lucerne and three gold medals at the world championships. For the Olympic season in 2008, she returned in the double sculls and finished with Kirsten van der Kolk second place in Lucerne. In the Olympic final in Beijing, the two won by just over a second ahead of the Finns.

The 1.76 meter tall Marit van Eupen is a professional athlete. Since 2004 she has athlete ambassador of development organization Right to Play.
