Mariya Abakumova

Marija Wassiljewna Abakumowa (Russian Мария Васильевна Абакумова, English transcription Mariya Abakumova, . Born January 15, 1986 in Stavropol ) is a Russian javelin thrower who was 2011 World Champion.
Career
Abakumowa celebrated her first international success in fourth at the Junior World Championships in 2003 in Sherbrooke. In 2007, she increased her longest jump over the previous season by more than four meters to 64.28 meters. At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, she was seventh with 61.43 m.
Shortly before the 2008 Olympics, she broke on August 2 in Irkutsk with 67.25 m the eight -year-old record set by Russian Tatyana Schikolenko. In the finals of the Olympic competition in Beijing, she threw 70.78 meters. Only Osleidys Menéndez was ever another success for. Only in the last passage Abakumowa has been overtaken by the Czech Barbora Špotáková who came up with 71.42 m up to 28 inches at the world record distance of Menéndez and Abakumowa displaced to the silver medal.
At the 2011 World Championships in Daegu Abakumowa won the gold medal. With her winning distance of 71.99 meters to set a new National and World championship record and pushed it in the alltime list ranks second
At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, she was not traveling as a favorite, and actually won the defending champion Barbora Špotáková. Abakumowa itself remained with 59.34 m in the final back both far short of their season high and behind their qualifications width and only came to tenth place.
Ins 2013, they started well, threw 69.34 m in March, underscoring its ambitions to a Gold medal at the World Championships, their Dauerkonkurrentin Špotáková just made also a baby break. After several defeats by Christina Obergföll at various Diamond League meetings, she won in July at the Summer Universiade in Kazan the gold medal. In Moscow, it was not possible to defend her title her, with 65.09 meters she won only the bronze medal. End of the season, however, they rose again. She won large meetings in Stockholm and Zurich, each with about 68 meters before it with 70.53 meters broke the 70 -meter mark at the ISTAF in Berlin and their own old Weltjahresbestleistung exceeded.
