Mark Astley ( born March 30, 1969 in Calgary, Alberta ) is a former Canadian-Swiss professional ice hockey player who has played in its active period from 1987 to 2007 included for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League.

Career

Mark Astley began his career as a hockey player with the Calgary Canucks, where he was active in the 1987/88 season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Then he attended for four years, the Lake Superior State University, for their hockey team, he was active in parallel to his studies in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. With his team he won the 1991 University of the CCHA Championship and a year later the NCAA championship. From 1992 to 1994 the defender ever played one year for the HC Lugano and HC Ambri -Piotta in the Swiss National League A. Towards the end of the 1993/94 season he made his debut for the Buffalo Sabres, which it already during his studies NHL Entry Draft 1989 had in the tenth round selected as a total 194 players in the National Hockey League. There he spent the following two seasons, where he was mainly for Buffalo Farm Team Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League in the 1994/95 season on the ice. The 1996/97 season spent the Olympians from 1994 at the Phoenix Roadrunners of the International Hockey League.

For the season 1997/98 Astley returned to his former club HC Lugano Swiss back into the NLA. With the team he won the Swiss Championship in seasons 1998/99 and 2002/ 03. The season 2004/ 05 he spent in Lugano League rivals SCL Tigers. Most recently, he ran from 2005 to 2007 for the NLA participants EHC Basel.

Internationally

For Canada, Astley participated in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer part where he won the silver medal with his team.
