Career

The son of the Canadian ice hockey player Lea Hardy was born in Switzerland, the light of the world, which is why he is listed in various statistics the NHL than the Swiss. In fact, Mark Hardy was the first player born in Switzerland, who came into the NHL used. But he is not owned by the Swiss citizenship.

As a junior he played for the Montreal Juniors in the QMJHL and has been in the second round drawn by the Los Angeles Kings during the NHL Entry Draft in 1979 as 30. After the draft, he played for the Binghamton Dusters in the AHL, but was already brought to the end of the season by the Kings in the NHL. His first full season played the defender 1980/81. He had his best season in 1984/85, in which he scored 14 goals and 39 goals prepared. He won the Canadian national team at the 1986 World Championship bronze medal.

Shortly before the end of the season 1987/88 he moved to the New York Rangers. After he had finished the season there, he moved to the Minnesota North Stars, but returned after only 15 games to New York. There he stayed this time for almost five seasons, before he returned in March 1993 to the Los Angeles Kings. But in Los Angeles, he could not prevail decisively, then played but yet until 1998 in the International Hockey League for the Phoenix Roadrunners, the Detroit Vipers and the Los Angeles Ice Dogs.

Hardy leads to all stats for the NHL players born in Switzerland. In the point statistics he was replaced on 25 March 2008 by Mark Streit. Even in his playing days, he was an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Ice Dogs. From 1999 he was an assistant with the Los Angeles Kings. From 2006 to 2008 Hardy worked as an assistant coach for the Chicago Black Hawks, followed by two years in the same position with the Los Angeles Kings. Since the season 2011/12, the Canadian working as an assistant coach with the Ontario Reign in the ECHL.

His mother, Barbara Wyatt reached as a figure skater at the 1952 Olympics in Oslo the 7th Place for Great Britain.
