Marlioz

Marlioz is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Marlioz is located at 550 m above sea level. M., about 16 km north- northwest of the city of Annecy (air line). The village stretches a scenic location on a ridge south of the Montagne de Sion, around 150 m above the valley of Usses, in Genevois.

The area of ​​8:12 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The area is crossed from east to west from the open valley of the Usses (left tributary of the Rhône). From the Talniederung, the municipality's area extends northward over the slope of Marlioz up to a flung far to the south ridge of the Montagne de Sion, on the 630 m above sea level. M. the highest elevation of Marlioz is achieved. A much smaller part of the municipality extends to the south of the Valley of Usses on the adjoining wall.

To Marlioz next to the village itself includes various hamlet settlements and farmsteads, including:

  • Grière (490 m above sea level. M. ) on the northern slope of the valley of the Usses
  • Chez les Gay (390 m above sea level. M. ) on Usses
  • Les Albin (480 m above sea level. M. ) on a plateau south of the Valley of Usses

Neighboring communities of Marlioz are Minzier and Chavannaz in the north, and Cernex Cercier in the east, Choisy and Sallenôves in the south and Contamine- Sarzin in the West.

History

Marlioz was first mentioned in the 15th century. In 1860 Marlioz was assigned to the newly created Canton Frangy, previously it was part of the canton of Saint -Julien -en- Genevois.

Attractions

In Marlioz are the village church and the castle from the 17th century with its square towers. On a wooded height above the confluence of Usses and Petites Usses stands the Château de Sallenôves, which originally dates from the 11th century, but has been remodeled comprehensively in the 14th and 17th centuries.

Population

With 715 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Marlioz is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still in Marlioz counted 695 inhabitants). Since the mid- 1970s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Marlioz is a predominantly coined by farming village today. There are also some plants of the local small business sector. Many working population commuters going about their work in the larger towns in the area as well as in space Annecy and Geneva - Annemasse.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from verse Sallenôves. Further road links exist with Minzier and Cercier. The nearest links to the A41 motorway is located at a distance of around 13 km.
