Martin Buß

Martin Buss ( born April 7, 1976 in Berlin ) is a former German high jumper.

In his youth he was first footballer and began in 1993 as a 17 -year-old in the Neukölln sports friends in Berlin with athletics. After two years, he was second at the 1995 Junior European Championships ( 2.19 m ), at the World Athletics Championships 1997 in Athens, he came to ninth place. He was at the World Indoor Championships in Maebashi Fourth, at the World Championships in Seville, he won the bronze medal in 1999. At the 2000 Olympics in Sydney he was missing because of an Achilles tendon surface scratch.

At the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton in 2001 he had at the height of 2.33 m a mistrial over the two Russians Vyacheslav Voronin and Yaroslav Rybakov. When both competitors rose to the height and penitential tear, he settled for his two attempts remaining hang 2.36m, which he then jumped over the only. He thus became the first and only German world champion in the high jump.

According to a seventh place finish at the European Championships in 2002, he increasingly gave problems with the knee to create. He underwent four operations and paused until January 2005, but was not able to his old performances thereafter.

Martin Buss is 1,95 m tall and weighs 82 kg. He started first for the OSC Berlin, and from 2001 for TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen and from 2005 for the Barmer TV from Wuppertal. In October 2006, he announced his retirement from professional racing and started at the police training for the elevated service. He is married, has three sons and lives in Berlin -Neukölln.
