Martin Rummel

Martin Rummel ( born 2 May 1974 in Linz) is an Austrian cellist.

Career

Martin Rummel was born the son of the lawyer Peter Rummel and grew up in Linz. He attended elementary school in Linz - Harbach and graduated in 1992 with honors at the Academic Gymnasium. After early harpsichord and piano lessons at Helga ship - Riemann ( the mother of cellist Heinrich Schiff ), he began in 1982 with Wilfried Tachezi at today's Anton Bruckner Private University to play the cello. In parallel, he sat at the same institute continued a study of the harpsichord in August Humer, but which he did not graduate. In March 1991, he graduated from the diploma with distinction as a cellist and as by then the youngest graduate of the house. Then, after a short private studies with Robert Cohen in London, he moved there to William Pleeth. Concerts

Around since 1990, Rummel has been active as a soloist and chamber musician. Concerts so far taken him through Europe, Asia, Oceania and the United States. In recent years he entered, for example, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Musikverein in Vienna, in Bruckner Linz, the Tonhalle in Dusseldorf, in the Krannert Center in Urbana, the " Carinthian Summer ", the " Varna Summer" and at the " Biennale di Venezia " on.

Rummel has numerous premieres and first played, including "Concerto Drammatico " by Graham Whettam (2000, USA) and the part of the solo cello in Thomas Daniel Schlee's church opera "I, Job " (2007, Ossiach ). With many important composers of our time, including Alfred Schnittke and Sofia Gubaidulina he studied their works.

In recent years, Rummel devotes more and more of the cyclical performance of solo suites by Johann Sebastian Bach and projects such as his own arrangement of the song cycle Winterreise by Franz Schubert, which he brings with pianist Norman Shetler and actors like August Zirner or Xaver Hutter to the performance.

Educational activities

From October 2000 to October 2007 led Rummel a cello class at the Music Academy of Kassel. In November 2008 he was appointed to a professorship at the University of Auckland, where he led a cello class in block classes until he resigned in late 2013 from this point, as this activity was less and less compatible with its concert commitments. Again and again he gives guest and master classes, in recent years, for example, in the Holzhauser Music Festival, the University of St Andrews, the Folkwang University, the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the New England Conservatory, the Longy School of Music in Boston and the International summer Academy Lenk ( Switzerland ).

Work as director and cultural mediators
