Maurice Pelling

Maurice James Pelling (* unknown, † June 1973 in Dénia, Spain ) was an English art director and production designer who won an Oscar for Best Production Design.

Life

Pelling began his career as an art director and production designer for the 1945 film The Man from Morocco ( The Man From Morocco ) and worked until 1973 at the scenic features of 25 other films.

In 1964 he won with John DeCuir, Jack Martin Smith, Hilyard M. Brown, Herman A. Blumenthal, Elven Webb, Boris Juraga, Walter M. Scott, Paul S. Fox and Ray Moyer Academy Award for Best Production Design in a color film, namely for the epic film Cleopatra (1963 ) by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Rex Harrison in the lead roles.

He died in a car accident in Dénia in Spain in early June 1973.
