Mehdi Baala

Mehdi Baala ( born August 17, 1978 in Strasbourg ) is a French middle-distance runner.

He had his first major international appearance as a 22 -year-old at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney when he was fourth at 1500 meters his favorite track. After a disappointing World Championships in Edmonton (only Twelfth over 1500 meters), he won the European Championships in Munich in 2002. He was at the 2003 World Championships in Paris in their own country as one of the favorites and just had to admit defeat Hicham El Guerrouj, who won his fourth world title in a row.

The 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki were then without great placements to great disappointment for Mehdi Baali. In Helsinki he started after an off in the semifinals over 1500 meters yet about the 800 meters and was able to at least finish sixth there. In 2006 Baala defended at the European Championships in Gothenburg his title. At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, he was disqualified in the semifinals, after he had extended his elbow on the home stretch and caused the fall of two counterparties.

At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing Mehdi Baala finished first only the unlucky fourth. Since the supposed Olympic FLEECE Rashid Ramzi was, however, tested positive in retrospect to the EPO derivative Mircera after he moved to the bronze medal.

Mehdi Baala has a competition weight of 65 kg at a height of 1.80 m.
