Menderes (formerly Cumaovası ) is a town and a district in the Turkish province of Izmir and at the same time a municipality of Büyükşehir Belediyesi ( city municipality ) Izmir. The town lies about 20 kilometers south of the center of İzmir.

The district is located in the south of the province and is bordered to the west by Seferihisar, on the north by Karabağlar, Gaziemir and Buca, to the east by Torbalı and on the southwest by Selçuk. The southern border is the bay of Kusadasi ( Kuşadası Körfezi ). In the center of the county, south of the city lies the reservoir Tahtalı Baraji. Meanwhile, drain the Büyük Çay, empties into the sea Gümüldür. In the town is the airport of Izmir ( Adnan Menderes Havalimanı ). There are several seaside on the coast in the south.

The place was formerly known as Cumaovası and was renamed after the former Prime Minister Adnan Menderes in 1987.

Attractions

In the south of the county is Ahmetbeyli the ancient sanctuary of Claros, about 1.5 kilometers south of it on the coast of the corresponding port of Notion. On the road that leads from there to Menderes, branches after about 15 km a way to Değirmendere from where the mountain Karaca Dagi was the ancient city of Colophon, was also for the notion of the harbor.
