Mendip

Mendip is a District in the county of Somerset in England, which is named after the Mendip Hills. Council is based in Shepton Mallet; significant sights are Evercreech, Frome, Glastonbury, Street and Wells.

The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and evolved from the merger of the Municipal Borough, City of Wells, the Urban Districts Frome, Shepton Mallet and Street, Rural District Frome, Shepton Mallet and Wells and parts of the Rural Districts Ashbrigde and Clutton.
