Mi reflejo is the second studio album by American pop singer Christina Aguilera. It was published in 2000 and is the only album the vocals for the artist in Spanish. The album contains five Spanish-language versions of songs from Aguilera's debut album and six new songs in Spanish.

Background

The album should show the Latin American roots of Christina Aguilera. She speaks no Spanish himself, understands the language, however, because her father at home spoke Spanish as a native Ecuadorians. In spring 2000, Aguilera took with music producer Rudy Pérez the songs for this album in Miami, Florida on. The album was to be called Latin Lover Girl originally, but was later renamed Mi reflejo.

The Ballad Si No Te Hubiera Conocido Aguilera sings a duet with the young born in Puerto Rico singer Luis Fonsi. The Contigo En La Distancia piece was a traditional song on the album, which has been previously interpreted by Tito Puente and the Mexican pop star Luis Miguel. The into Spanish translated pieces of the debut album will Genio Atrapado ( Genie In A Bottle ) Por Siempre Tú ( I Turn to You) Una Mujer ( What A Girl Wants ), Mi Reflejo ( Reflection) and Ven Conmigo ( Come On Over ).

Criticism

The album was well received by critics. Mostly it was rated higher than Stripped. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic describes the album as a remake of the debut album Christina Aguilera. It was indeed well produced, but contains no highlights. It would involve music in between that are not so convince as her debut album.

Commercial success

Mi reflejo debuted at number 27 on the Billboard 200, the album reached 2001 in the United States six times platinum for more than 600,000 units sold. Two songs on the album were nominated for the Latin Grammy Award Genio Atrapado in the category of Best Female Vocal Performance (2000) and Pero Me Acuerdo De Tí as Record of the Year ( 2001). The album was nominated for Pop Album Grammy Awards 2001 in the category Best Latin. Aguilera was thus the first American artist to have won a Latin Grammy. The album was particularly successful in Latin American countries such as Argentina, Mexico and Venezuela, where it reached the Top Ten on the album charts.
