Milton H. Mabry

Milton Harvey Mabry ( born June 17, 1851 Pickens County, Alabama; † March 3, 1919 in Tampa, Florida) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1885 and 1889 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Florida.

Career

Milton Mabry was the son of a merchant. In 1856 the family moved to Louisiana and around 1860 in the state of Mississippi. Around the year 1868 Mabry wrote to the University of Mississippi in Oxford. After a subsequent law degree from Cumberland University in Tennessee and his 1872 was admitted to the bar he began to work in Mississippi in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. For a period he was mayor of the city of Tupelo. Since 1879, he practiced with a partner in Leesburg (Florida ). In 1883 and 1884 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Florida.

1884 Mabry was elected to the side of Edward A. Perry for Lieutenant Governor of Florida. This post he held 1885-1889. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. At that time, the post of Lieutenant Governor of Florida was abolished after a reform of the constitution. Mabry was up for re- introduction of this office in 1968, the last lieutenant governor of his state.

After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor Milton Mabry first practiced as a lawyer again. Since 1891 he was a judge of the Supreme Court of Florida. Between 1895 and 1897 he served as Chief Justice Chief Judge of that court. Then he was there until 1902 normal judge. From 1905 to 1915 he worked as a clerk in the administration of that court. He died on March 3, 1919 in Tampa, where he was also buried.
