Min Chinese

Min dialect (Chinese闽 方言/闽 方言pinyin Mǐn Fangyan ) is the umbrella term for several Chinese dialects spoken mostly in the Chinese provinces of Fujian, Hainan and among the overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia and Taiwan. It differs from the standard Chinese, especially the fact that it has more initial sounds and end of a word.

Another name for this group is Hokkien dialect, derived from the Fujian province name (older romanization: Fukien ). In Taiwan, the local variety of the Min dialect bears the native name Hō - ló - oē. In the Philippines it is called Lán - long - oē (language of our people ) in the ethnic Chinese Filipinos.

Northern Min dialect

The northern Min dialect (Chinese闽北 话/闽北 话, pinyin Mǐn Beihua ) is mainly spoken in Fujian Province in the administrative territory of the prefecture-level city of Nanping.

Eastern Min dialect

The eastern Min dialect (闽东 话/闽东 话, Mǐn Donghua ) is mainly spoken in the city of Fuzhou, Fujian Province.

Puxian Dialect

The Puxian dialect (Pinyin: Puxianhua ) is spoken in Fujian Province in the administrative territory of the prefecture-level city of Putian.

Mean Min dialect

The mean Min dialect, also Min Zhong (闽中 话/闽中 话, Mǐn Zhonghua) is mainly spoken in Fujian Province in the administrative area of the prefecture-level city Sanming.

Southern Min dialect

The Southern Min dialect (闽南 语/闽南 语, Mǐnnányǔ, PEH oē - jī BAN lâm -gu ) is mostly in the prefecture-level cities of Xiamen ( Amoy ), Quanzhou ( Chinchew ) and Zhangzhou ( Changchew ) of Fujian Province and the part in the provinces of Guangdong ( Teochew ), Hainan and Taiwan ( Taiwanese language ) spoken.
