The Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza (formerly Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza ) is a multi-purpose arena in Wilkes -Barre, Pennsylvania. The arena serves as the home ground for the Hockey Teams Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. In ice hockey games 8,050 spaces are available at concerts to 10,000 places. The arena is owned by the Luzerne County and managed by the Spectacor Management Group ( SMG) operated.

History

The multi-purpose arena was opened on 13 November 1999 under the name of Northeastern Pennsylvania Civic Arena and Convention Center, as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins completed their first home game. Later, the naming rights were acquired by First Union and renamed the venue in First Union Arena at Casey Plaza. 2001, for the first time the AHL All- Star Classic played out when the two teams in the Canadian AHL All-Stars and PlanetUSA AHL All-Stars came together. After another name change of the Arena ( Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza), was announced in November 2009 that Mohegan Sun, an Indian casino in Connecticut, the naming rights has secured to the arena for the next ten years.

From 2002 to 2009, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers contributed from the arenafootball2 of their home games in the arena. In addition to sporting events, the stadium is among other things also for freestyle motocross racing, monster truck races (Monster Jam ), basketball show playing the Harlem Globetrotters and concerts used.
