Monty Williams

Tavares Montgomery "Monty" Williams, Jr. ( born October 8, 1971 in Fredericksburg, Virginia ) is a retired American professional basketball player and the current head coach of the New Orleans Hornets in the NBA.

Playing career

Williams played in nine NBA seasons 1994 to 2003. He played for the New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic and the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite his existing heart disease, he was selected in the NBA Draft in 1994 as 24th pick by the Knicks. In his NBA career, Williams played in 456 games and made a total of 2,884 points. On April 8, 1997, he scored a career - high 30 points as the Spurs players against the Denver Nuggets.

Coaching career

In 2005, Williams was hired by Nate McMillan as an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers.

On 7 January 2010, he signed a three -year contract with the trainer New Orleans Hornets.
