Mort Mills

Mort Mills ( born January 11, 1919 in New York City; † June 6, 1993 in Ventura, California; actually Mortimer Morris Kaplan ) was an American film and television actor.

Life and career

He was often seen in the role of Sheriff or villain in many Western of the 1950s and 1960s. From 1957 to 1959 he played in 23 episodes a supporting role on the side of Rex Reason as Marshal Frank Tallman in the Western series The Man Without a Colt .. Other series roles he had as Sergeant Ben Landro in Perry Mason and Sheriff Fred Madden in The Big Valley. In addition to his television roles he appeared regularly in feature films. He starred in Alfred Hitchcock 's classic thriller Psycho a patrolman who follows Marion Crane ( Janet Leigh ). Six years later, he again worked with Hitchcock in Torn Curtain and played a spy in East Germany. Mills also appeared with Charlton Heston in Orson Welles' Touch of Evil. In 1973 he retired to tens of around 140 film and television appearances from the drama business.

His cousin was the actress Mary Treen. Mills first marriage, from which came two children, ended in divorce. His second marriage lasted from 1956 until his death, from this marriage was a child.
