Motocross World Championship

The Motocross World Championship is discharged by the FIM since 1957 a series of events in motocross. The World Cup is being held in different countries with multiple runs per Grand Prix. World Champion is the driver with the most championship points. In addition, there will be a championship team with the separate Motocross of Nations.

Until 2002 was the hosting of the World Motocross Championship in three classes by engine capacity limits (up to 125 cc to 250 cc and 500 cc ) were distinguished. Because of these technical specifications only two-stroke engines were used. In 2003, the new class " Motocross GP" analogous to the MotoGP was introduced in road racing. Registered in this class were motorcycles with two-stroke engines and a maximum of 250 cc and four-stroke engines with 450 cc displacement. In the small class (125 ) additional four-stroke engines were admitted to 250 cc. In the large class (650), the displacement was limited to a maximum of 650 cc.

Since 2004, the World Championship in the MX1 (250 cc two-stroke and 450 cc four-stroke ), MX2 ( 125cc two-stroke and 250cc four-stroke ) and MX3 is (500 cc two-stroke and 650 cc four-stroke ) discharged.
