Mount Beauty, Victoria

Mount Beauty is a town in the northeast of the Australian state of Victoria. It lies on the upper reaches of the Kiewa River and in the Alpine Shire Local Government Area.

History

The city was founded in 1949 by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria as property settlement for the workers at the hydroelectric project Kiewa River. After the end of construction in 1967, the settlement of the Local Government Area was assumed.

The first post office was in Tawonga South ( north of the city ) was opened on 15 April 1943 and were called in Mount Beauty itself on 17 February 1947. Post offices that Camp No. 2, No. 4 Camp and Camp No. 5, was it in the time from 1949 until 1953.

Climate

The weather is highly dependent on the seasons. The winter is frosty, cool spring, the summer scorching hot and autumn colorful.

Events and Leisure

Each season offers its own attractions: skiing, hiking, horse riding, paragliding, cycling and mountain biking and fishing. In January there is an annual competition at paragliding, the Bogong Cup.

Mount Beauty, together with the neighboring village of Dede Rank ( about 40 km north ) is an Australian football team Dede rank - Mount Beauty playing in the Tallangatta & District Football League.

Golfers can play at Tawonga Crescent in Mount Beauty Golf Club.

Mount Beauty offers its own music festival, mountain bike competitions and regular weekend markets on the first Sunday of the month. In the area around the city there are also a number of roads that can be used by off-road riders.

The town offers a wonderful view of the mountains, such as Mount Bogong. From Mount Beauty from can also take an excursion to the Falls Creek ski resort 32 km south-east and to the Bogong High Plains. At the south end of the town there are many shops where you can rent skis, and bus companies that offer day trips to Falls Creek.
