Falls Creek (Victoria)

Falls Creek is a ski resort in the northeast of the Australian state of Victoria. It is located about 350 kilometers by road from Melbourne, and about 30 km southeast of the nearest town, Mount Beauty. The winter sports area lies at altitudes between 1,210 m and 1,830 m; the highest mountain station is situated at 1,780 m. You can ski on the nearby Mount McKay ( 1,842 m), which can be reached from Falls Creek from a snowmobile.

History

After the Second World War, the State Electricity Commission of Victoria began the hydropower project in the valley of the Kiewa River. In 1948, on the mountain pastures, which had previously been used only as summer pasture for cattle, the first ski hotel. The first ski lift and ski lift was built in 1951 and the first chairlift in the area ( and Australia! ) 1957.
