Mount Buller (Victoria)

Mount Buller is a mountain and ski resort in the Snowy Mountains, Australia. From Canberra from it is the closest skiing and hiking area, which is mainly used for day trips. There is also a holiday village at Mount Buller.

Hiking

The peak of Mount Buller (1805 m) can be approached by car, only the last 500 meters must be hiked. The mountain can be climbed even by the Delatite River from when the King Spur walking track is followed. This path was used by drovers, when they drove their animals during the summer months in higher altitudes. The trail begins in Merimbah, is 8 km long and well marked.

Another way of Thank Christ Corner, leads over the mountain ridge and the Mclaughlin - way to the summit. This approach provides a good view of the fire watch tower on the summit and on individual rocks that need to be passed. The tower is open during the summer months with a fire station.

Winter sports

At Mount Buller, there are ski and snowboard rental, ski schools and ski slope controls. The ski area covers 180 hectares. The longest run is 2.5 km long route. In the area there are 25 lifts that can carry up to 40,000 passengers per hour.

In the village Mount Buller has apartments and hotels with 7,000 beds and in the nearby town of Mansfield additional 2,300 beds. Mount Buller Village has a post office, a bank and shops as well as emergency medical care.
